About Walking In The Sun Rescue

Walking In The Sun Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organisation— rescuing dogs for years but becoming “official” in 2014.

Our mission is to promote spay and neuter, find loving indoor homes for the homeless, treat the ill and injured, comfort those who are suffering, and educate the community.

We operate without a brick-and-mortar shelter; every life is saved through a network of foster homes. We take in animals when space and finances allow, especially those that would not be accepted by the local shelter—or to keep them from entering it in the first place.

All pets are fully vetted in foster care, then placed in permanent homes or transported to partner rescues across the United States.

Because of generous donors and fund-raisers, our dogs leave a world of darkness and learn to walk in the sun every day.

"Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever."

Our 2026 Goals

Why Our Parish Needs Us

Morehouse Parish’s has only one brick-and-mortar veterinary clinic operating in the parish, which creates a critical gap in veterinary services. Our focus is on helping to make routine veterinary care accessible to more animals and the families that care for them.

Community Partners

We rely on the generosity of North-east LA veterinarians Dr. Chris Morris (Rayville), Dr. Tyler Thomas (West Monroe) and Dr. Jennifer Ratliff (Ruston), plus outreach hosts such as PetSmart (Monroe) and Tractor Supply (West Monroe & Bastrop).

Board of Directors

Together, we’re widening the circle of compassion—one pet, one person, one parish at a time.
